90 Points

Monday, May 14, 2012 - Popped and poured. Light translucent reddish-burgundy in color. Palate of earthyness, forest mushrooms and red fruit. No creosote or road tar flavors common to Barolo. This is from the VERY hot 2003 vintage and my guess is that the grapes are riper than average. The acidity seems a bit lower than customary in a Barolo and the tanins are no where near fierce. There is an apparent fruity sweetness on the back of the palate, which may represent the tanins doing what they are supposed to do as they breat up. The wine is very approachable now for a Barolo that is just past 8 years old. I do not know how this will age and I believe it has yet to reach its peak, but it is quite pleasant right now.
