88 Points

Sunday, March 23, 2008 - Decanted 2 hours. Lots of sediment in this one, so pour with care. Nose of cedar wood and black currant. The palate is big fruit: blackberry and currant, with some fairly heavy tannins. Dry, tannic finish with berry fuit and some mild alcohol heat. This should definitely lay down for another year. Even with the decant, still very young. Very well structured however, and my first Chilean cabernet. Excellent - 88 points.

Day 2: After sitting in the decanter overnight and all the next day, I tried this wine again. What a difference! The heavy tannins are mostly gone, as is the harsh cedar nose. Lots of smooth berry and currant fruit coming through. Still a tad tannic on the finish, but loads better than last night. I definitely recommend not cracking this one until 2009--at the earliest. Note: #49 in Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2007.
