Monday, April 15, 2024 - This Etna nerello red, very recognisable as such, needs to be savoured with patience. While my first impression after opening was one of red fruity simplicity, I am rewarded with complexity and length after a couple of hours. Indeed, it has developed fruity flavours as different as ripe peach, zesty orange and succulent cherry. While at first it was merely tart, I am now met with aromatic, elegant acids with a soft, balsamic aspect. The dark earthy, smoky overtone was there from the beginning though. A hint of dried herbs and cloves like spices and fine, well integrated tannins complete the picture.
Funny to see, in CT as well as in professional reviews (Decanter and Parker vs Suckling, Jancis Robinson and Gambero Rosso), the split between good and very, very good. As if some reviewers weren't patient enough...
