Monday, December 26, 2022 - It always brings a smile to my face when I get the chance to sit down with an old bottle of wine that has aged as well and as gracefully as this one has. Very shortly after opening the aromas that came off this wine were quite expressive with lots of plummy, pruny compote up front followed by a myriad of subtle undertones including pipe tobacco, spicebox, abundant forest floor and mushroom compost and old, dried flowers. The mid weight palate is soft and delicate with surprising depth and complexity. I think I’d call the finish mid-length, but for some reason it doesn’t really grab me. To my tastes, I think that this is fully mature, but I suspect it won’t self destruct anytime soon and probably has a number of very good years ahead of it. What a delight!!
