Sourced from WineAccess. Orange-red with brick-red edges. Bitumen, plum and cedar closet on the nose. Much more fruity and tangy than anticipated palate, with fine-grained tannins and medium finish.

Bright cedar, cranberry, sautéed mushroom on heavily expressive nose. Amazingly vibrant acidity for its age. Same notes as nose on palate but add stewed cherry/strawberry with very well integrated tannins and medium finish. Wonderful stuff.

Amazingly fresh and youthful, elegant yet powerful, dark cherry jumps out of the glass (I thought this was a 10 year old Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir), cherry supported by spice, cedar, mushroom and leather notes, wonderful mouthfeel and long finish

It always brings a smile to my face when I get the chance to sit down with an old bottle of wine that has aged as well and as gracefully as this one has. Very shortly after opening the aromas that came off this wine were quite expressive with lots of plummy, pruny compote up front followed by a myriad of subtle undertones including pipe tobacco, spicebox, abundant forest floor and mushroom compost and old, dried flowers. The mid weight palate is soft and delicate with surprising depth and complexity. I think I’d call the finish mid-length, but for some reason it doesn’t really grab me. To my tastes, I think that this is fully mature, but I suspect it won’t self destruct anytime soon and probably has a number of very good years ahead of it. What a delight!!

Nose: Camphor, leather, cranberry, tart cherry, orange peel. Hugelt herbal. Beautiul perfume that evolves and moves into new phases nicely. Palate: tart red fruit, leather, spiced oranges, wood and sage oil. Complex and light on its feet. Finish: Honestly the finish is what holds this back from being a truly great wine. A bit woody and blocky in the finish.
This is a really nice fully mature rioja. Wines like this are hard to find in the US, and I am so glad that Wine Access sourced this and offered it.
