98 Points

Wednesday, June 23, 2021 - This was the clear star of the evening in a nice line up that also include a '02 Bouzereau Corton, a '94 Tollot Beaut Corton, a '03 Louis Latour Corton & my '08 Michel Gaunoux Corton Renardes. Our group rarely attempts verticals due to holes in some of my buddies cellars. Tonight, everyone was able to pull it off and it was both fun and informative. This '82 old vine Corton Monopole was sublime. Full of btl age patina & resonance. Not unlike playing a soulful late 40s Gibson flat top. And yet, well fruited & teeming with life & energy. We likely have the age worthy Mag format & terroir to thank! This was flat out a beautiful wine from a local cellar. If ever, "ethereal" applies as a descriptor, it does here. Tertiary aromatics of iron, porcini, forest floor and dried flowers. The palate is so inviting & resolved with more iron, dark raspberry, cherry, mushroom, tea & forest floor. Both weightlessly rich, and precise. This might have been the only red to be completely emptied tonight? Too many mags get opened way too early. This is one the very few I've experienced where the wine is at its zenith. Phenomenal texture & placidity! Loved it! Thanks Siggy & Candace!
