90 Points

Monday, April 20, 2009 - Whoo hoo, no modern style winemaking here. This a barnyard festival. Aromatics are loaded up with game, sauvage and Pinot funk. Palate is a mélange of gaminess, plum and spice-oriented fruit and a dollop of not too intrusive toastiness. This is a little wild all the way around. When it ultimately ended up paired with some roasted spring lamb it settled into its groove and the gaminess of each item worked in concert. More fruit game to the fore-palate and the funkiness dissipated. A really terrific pairing. Not a wine for everyone or for every dish but this was in a good place right now for lovers of that meaty Morey style. Good juice with a lot of gumption left in the tank. Will be interesting to see how that resolves over time.
