Monday, October 20, 2008 - Wine of the day. As it was pointed out to me a week before this tasting, these old Chateau Ste Michelle Cabs are a whole different animal from what you would have in your glass today from the “Regular” bottling. Indeed, a mere 33 years young, and I was amazed, no, in shock, how this thing has held together. Fireworks of aged cedar on the nose seduced and enchanted both experienced taster and novices alike. The palate wasn’t quite as dramatic as the nose, but it did leave a favorable impression of cassis fruit and sharp acidity. Almost no fading of structure or presence with the two hours that it sat in the decanter. A memorable experience and many thanks to my old man for sharing this with the group.
