89 Points

Monday, January 9, 2012 - Pulled from cellar (one more left of 8). Opened and poured in glass. Swirled and hand warmed for 30 minutes before first sip. Very aromatically challenged. Not much sediment in bottle. Red fruit and light vanilla oak aromatics with a very light hint of coffee…but very light. Medium body and no heaviness (a good thing)….but the wood is overbearing at this time and that "purity" of fruit that you get on the flagship cabs is nowhere to be found. Some chocolate notes (less than what I remember from last year) and tannins are very smooth at this time. 60 mins later still aromatically challenged with more wood and vanilla aroma but pairing well (smooth and nice mouth feel) with the pot roast and BCS game…. IMHO not going to get any better w age and remained very one dimensional (but a good one dimension….but being a QC I want to hold this to a higher bar). Reaffirms my belief that second wines from CA and WA just may not be worth the price (Napanook withstanding for my taste). Have not touched the 06/07 or 08’s QC red wines yet…but now going to start. Second half BCS bottle is 06 Schrader CCS (look for review later).
