Tuesday, May 5, 2015 - Wow!
Well, what can one say?
We popped 21 bottles of Cru Barolo - 2004 tonight, in order to really dig into the real details of the communes, with this horizontal tasting.
This was, in an extremely hard competition, my wine of the night at the end (maybe, such a close competition!?).
Nose is almost beyond words.
Super concentrated and at the same time airy and perfumed.
Like walking straight into an exploding blossoming rose garden!
Red roses, rose petals, perfumed rose, with some red flowers, even more red roses and some violets on top.
Amazingly floral.
Secondary layers showing loads of red cherries, strawberries and raspberries, some fine herbs, third layers with touch of tar, shoe polish, leather, orange peels and spices.
Layered and very complex.
Palate is almost hedonistically concentrated (naturally, not man-made), but still in some weird way airy and transparent at the same time?
Cherries, pretty raspberries, spices & herbs, among some ingredients, with excellent length and really full bodied, with a superb and fine, fresh acidity to balance this whole package.
Continues to grow and develop until the glass (much to fast) is empty.
This is still truly a baby, and very far from peak, but such an amazing and beautiful wine already.
I would however wait a few years still before opening my bottles, if I was lucky enough to have any in my cellar, since I believe that so much is still to come, that I would not want to miss out.
