Sunday, November 25, 2018 - Sunday afternoon at UE Straits. Aired in bottle for 1 hour and drank over the next hour.
Appearance is clear, pale intensity, ruby colour with garnet rim. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of toasty coffeebean, spices, stony earth minerality, ripe red cherries, hints of mushroomy earth merging. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), formidable grippy mouth-drying high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of very concentrated deep sweet ripe red cherries, stony earth, leather, oak spice, coffeebeans. Long finish.
Very good quality. Lots of depth, but not as complex or faceted as I would prefer. Barely entering into a drinking window. Still can continue to develop over the next 10 years.
Usage of some barriques here is evident.
From Cascina Ornato cru in the commune of Serralunga d'Alba.
