Wednesday, May 19, 2010 - (Drank at Gilt NYC.) A full-bodied, lead-footed, muscular Pinot with lots of oak, some forest floor, tar, deep red fruits, and heady alcohol. It's certainly a "New World" wine, as previous tasters have emphasized. It really beats you over the head, but it's quite tasty for all that -- the racy acidity gives it the necessary balance. Just about anything would match well with Gilt's sublime tasting menu, and the Aubert didn't overwhelm it by any stretch. Still, the (likewise bold) DuMOL Ryan 2006 that we had a few days earlier was better.
