This was drinking great. Upon opening it has a beautiful bouquet and had a multi-dimensional rhubarb scent and taste and then smoothed into a strawberry spice on the U-V. Wine is solid and drinking window is wide open
Way better than the dead 06 Aubert Ritchie.

Pours with medium density. Cherry jolly rancher nose. Candied cherry front that has a hint of anise and cola. Middle is darker fruit for sure. Finishes with good acidity and very round. QUITE lovely. Not over the top. NOT in the gutter. The structure on this one is massive. Gotta love it! This will hold another 5 years but it is in such a great place right now, why wait?

Medium-bodied dark strawberry fruit, excellent structure, still very tight and restrained, slight cola flavors, medium finish, lacked earthiness and complexity of flavors, somewhat straight forward pinot, maybe a bit thin due to high alcohol, but wine wasn't hot, very expensive

Nose of strawberries, red currants, a hint of oak and some earthy/dusty aromas. The palate is full bodied for a pinot noir with silky red fruit and a silky mouthfeel. Some rosted spices. Not a lot of tannins. This wine is in a perfect spot and i'm not sure it will get any better.

Quite elegant. Nicely balanced. An interesting middle ground between the very floral burgundy tradition and some of the more smoky CA Pinot Noir that I prefer. More fruit than floral on the nose. Some acidity still left and quite perfumey. Bright, light fruit forward.

Big brooding Pinot. Red fruits, granite in the mid-palate with a solid finish. The wine was quite hot and not ideally balanced although I still enjoyed it. Enjoyed with a pork tenderloin and duck multi course meal.

This was a controversial wine. Some liked it, some didn't. I liked it for what it is. Nobody will ever confuse this with burgundy, but that's not the point. This is a big, well made California pinot with sweet red fruit (strawberries and raspberries) and fairly heavy oak. A long finish. I did not find this to be disjointed or hot, particularly since the listed alcohol is 15.8%. No signs of decline. I'll drink my remaining bottles over the next three to five years.

I read both Tanzer and Burghound before serving this last night…hard to believe they were talking about the same wine. One gave it 82, the other 94…Anyway, I tend to agree with Burghound…not a well put together wine. Very disjointed, awkward, big hearty wine that hardly tasted like Pinot. Got one bottle left - not sure what to do with it. Cook?

Alcohol, alcohol, and more alcohol. After 6 hours, it's not any better, just alcohol with oak peeking through. Just a ghastly, disjointed mess. During this regrettable era in California, high alcohol, extreme ripeness, and massive oak were all the rage, and oh, how unkind the years have been. What am I missing here? I have several bottles left, and now I teeter between depression and anger at having purchased this.

Shitty cork. Disintegrated upon opening despite being stored at 58 degrees and 60% humidity since purchase. Wine was very concentrated, viscous, but cork tainted from the dust that seeped Ito the wine. Not terribly happy about this one.

Very complex and concentrated pinot. Nice fruit and soft tannins but out of synch at present. I feel this wine is still coming together and likely will be a beauty with an improved score in a few years. Not going to touch my other two bottles for at least three years.

Big rich wine. As many Aubert Pinots this has both the full throttle force of massive fruit, earth and spice while still maintaining its finesse and restraint. Well endowed mid palate this is still a super young wine with a long life ahead. The palate is really viscous and shows roast nut and caramel qualities. It was interesting having this after such a gentle yet complex Marcassin. Still, this was fantastic and made in the true Aubert style.

From a magnum. Decanted for an hour. Rich and complex, particularly in the mid-palate. In fact there's little fruit upfront. It definitely needs some time to open up. Lots of cherries, strawberries and raspberries. Some cola too. Enjoyable but a little unbalanced. Alcohol is a bit too prominent too.

I opened this early and Audouzed it for Thanksgiving and that was a good decision...strong initial flavors of rhubarb and strawberry and the high octane you would expect....the long aeration burned that off and left a very balanced and rich wine where the initial flavors persisted and no heat...really very nice.

Popped and poured. Medium bright ruby red. Wonderful rich blackberry scent. On the palate, very intense full-bodied with red fruits a crisp apple acidity and a long very penetrating finish; not at all flabby or overripe, although clearly a big wine. Not hot on first taste; but clearly high in alcohol (15.8 APV). This is better to me than the 05 UV as it doesn't taste sweet or hot (damning w faint praise). Interesting wine; no idea if this will age, but will keep my last bottle for a few years.

Incredibly well made with lots of depth and character. It's richer than, say, Williams-Selyem of the same Appellation which I think is a little more delicate and spice driven. Decant and give this an hour. This should continue to age well through 2015.

This wine has strawberry fruit and ample oak but is somewhat hot and disjointed at the time. I think that the fruit will overcome some of the other issues with time but it did not hold up to the 2008 Sea Smoke Southing. Heat and alcohol were abundant on finish.

G6 (Rick): Bright ruby color. Raspberry nose. Tastes of cherry, raspberry, and earth with a large charred oak backbone. Bitter cherry cola finish. Some refreshing acidity seems to keep the wine from completely falling on its face. A whopping 15.8% alcohol doesn't bode well for its future either. I've never been a fan of Aubert Pinot Noir and this experience just cements my opinion.

A bit lighter in color than typical Aubert pinot's . . . love the nose on this -- lots of sweet fruit -- vanilla and cherries -- maybe a little floral component too. Palate was quite lush although lacked the acidity I've found with other Aubert pinot's -- they don't have a lot usually but more than this. Finish was medium in length. A hedonistic but not an intellectual wine by any means. Just enjoy.

This was an outstanding bottle of wine with seemlessness, no rough edges and a declicious blend of fruit flavors with a touch of vanilla in the background. The fruit was red, heavy on the cherry and a bit of plum and berry. The mouth feel was silky perfection. Was it sweet, or just the ripe fruit? I think the residual sugar was zero, but the fruit removed any sensation of bitterness, astringency or mouth puckering. But there was some tartness as well, which sounds odd, but was a function of the great balance in the wine. The tartness came out more as air time increasaed after we popped and poured at The Old Homestead (corkage $35). IIRC, the alcohol level was 15.5%, but it didn't matter. The wine was in such perfect balance that it was not noticeable. I suppose that if you drink Coors Light for distance rather than flavor, this wine is not for you, but I prefer taste. Yummmmm!

Rich Pinot with a big berry pie nose; very tasty, and didn't show hot for me, with a medium length finish, but not really juicy or bursting with complexity, and thus limited and a not-so-good QPR.

15.8% alcohol. Dark red color, with a slight purple tinge. Very ripe nose of blackberry compote, black cherry, and spicy oak. In the mouth, very pleasant, with a slightly jammy edge to the fruit and a thick texture. The fruit flavors are decidedly on the dark side and just enough in the Pinot camp, with a slight earthy note coming through. Enough acidity to keep it from being flabby. Heat on the finish, which is inevitable at this alcohol level. B+

Popped and poured and consumed over 4 hours. Medium-bodied wine that is medium ruby in color. On the nose, dark cherries and spice box. On the palate, pure cherry essence, cloves, citrus, and a touch of vanilla oak on the extremely long 40+ second finish. Beautifully balanced and silky on the tongue, this wine is a pure joy to drink…love it, love it, love it!

(Drank at Gilt NYC.) A full-bodied, lead-footed, muscular Pinot with lots of oak, some forest floor, tar, deep red fruits, and heady alcohol. It's certainly a "New World" wine, as previous tasters have emphasized. It really beats you over the head, but it's quite tasty for all that -- the racy acidity gives it the necessary balance. Just about anything would match well with Gilt's sublime tasting menu, and the Aubert didn't overwhelm it by any stretch. Still, the (likewise bold) DuMOL Ryan 2006 that we had a few days earlier was better.

Shafer HSS 2004, Scarecrow 2006, and more at Preston's in Naples, Fl: Rich sweet high toned black cherry aromatics. Floral elements to the nose nose coming across as quite suave and sophisticated for California Pinot. A hedonistic wine for sure, but with tremendous purity and depth. Lush black cherry fruit flavors with vanilla edge. Nice supporting acidity in background gave great mouth coating texture of warm chocolate cherry milk. Clear that quality of fruit made this a simply a great drink. Not for pure Burghounds, just yummy giving great pleasure. A wine that come to you in little need of analytics, simply comes across as high end new world pinot noir.

Amazing wine. I was worried about what some people were saying about Aubert Pinots. Well, they are very big and bold. But, I love it. the richness and complexity is super. It seems to be a bit 'brighter' than the supreme kislter pinots. I agree with another note, that time may not improve this wine. It is excellent right now- if you like big, rich pinots.

If just a bit alcoholic on the finish this is otherwise an elegant medium bodied burgundian style pinot. Dominated by red fruit tastes, not aired long enough to get much on the nose, hold the rest for at least another two years and try again, maybe be better than 94. Beautiful color and clarity.

Initial nose very muted with vibrant flavors of strawberry and a short finish. Decanted an hour. Aromas of earth, strawberry and rose petal emerged. Flavors intensified and still displayed great vibrancy. Tea, cherry, strawberry and spice. The finish became long lasting and "lip smacking good". Not syrupy, but still vibrant yet balanced. The wine has good purity and should settle down over next 12 to 18 months. Should be a really good wine at that point.

Same notes as 2009, if not a bit sweeter but not so much as over the top, super wine.

Pinot Noir Smackdown (Northbrook, IL): Nose of toasted brown spices, some red berries too. These come through on the palate which also added pomegranate & nice cherries with zesty acidity.
My #9 group's #10.

Popped but not poured for 1 hour. Served with grilled chicken. Nose of smoke and fresh cherry. Flavors of cherry, bluefruits and a hint of vanilla. Nice complexity and a bit of spice. This really needs air prior to drinking.

Nose is one-dimensionally OAK. Extremely powerful in the mouth and a creamy vanilla permeates. and not much else. A matter of personal taste, but definitely not my style.

Drank with Gary Pisoni at brunch at our home, along with an '06 Pisoni Estate. Dark, but clear color. Subtle, smooth and feminine in style. Luscious fruits. Mark Aubert made Gary Pisoni's 1st pinot, a 1998.

Decanted for 2 hours. Nose of cherry cola, strawberries and cotton candy. Very fruit forward, though finishing with a streak of minerality. Very enjoyable.

Tasted with Ebbe Bonde Sorensen at Allegretti, NYC.
Flat and unrevealing nose. Tart pomegranate and cherry cola notes. Not showing well and is especially monolithic compared to tonight's competition.

Cloudy pink in color. A big blast of alcohol on the nose. Absolutely massive on the palate. Huge finish of overly extracted fruit. Nothing else notable but the finish, which is really long. For the price this is an absolute joke. I will never buy it again.

Dark in color with slight cloudiness. Nose initially closed. After 2-3 hours of air, opened nicely. Flavors of red fruits particluarly cherries with spices. I enjoyed this and my wife loved it.

Yes. My wine of the afternoon. Pop and pour. Lovely palate. Some alcohol on the nose. Big, dark fruit. Really nice. In my opinion, this is ready to go now. I can't speculate where it will be in the future, but if were looking for a great bottle to open now, I'd look no further than this.

Rich cherry and very sweet notes. Not a lot of lift or structure, but very crowd pleasing none-the-less. Not sure that aging is going to help this wine.

Big fan of this. very tight in the beginning. After about 3 hours the wine began to come out of its shell and display rich pur fruits layered with spices. Complex and delicious. Debated between 93+ and 94.
