Saturday, May 24, 2008 - Opened, decanted and consumed over 3 hours. Deep purple core with some bricking at the rim. Surprisingly youthful wine with a nose of cassis and red currents, tobacco, lead and smokey oak. Medium bodied with nice fruit concentration, the palate flavours are akin to the nose. Initially there was some alcohol on the finish but after a short time this faded and the wine became more balanced. Fine tannins remain. The finish is slightly short. A good wine for the vintage? It certainly exceeded my expectations. (Note, this is the first wine Oliver has tasted -- it was just a drop from the tip of my finger after wanting to sniff it in the glass).
