Friday, January 9, 2015 - This magnum of the 1959 Pichon Lalande was singing, and much better than I remember previous encounters with this wine. A beautiful and expressive bouquet burst from the glass with a melange of creamy raspberry, cherry, fresh tobacco leaf and cedar. On the palate, this wine displays a beautiful balance and quite fresh acids for a '59, with an extremely seductive, layered texture and lovely melted tannins. Gaining in volume with time in the glass and decanter, this particular magnum was at its absolute peak.
