Monday, January 7, 2008 - Lieu-dit Cru Richebourg Dinner (Primehouse - Chicago IL): Audouzed 3 ½ hours before poured. Honestly, this bottle was the main reason we organized this dinner. This was the first time I have ever had a Jayer Richebourg, and would say this was the most confusing and controversial wine of the night. I found the aromatics to be entrancing and engaging. They were powerful and intense. But I found the palate to be much less forthcoming - more acid and tannin than fruit or elegance. I think this wine improved nicely over the next 3 hours. Alas, I have no more bottles of this wine; but if I did, I wouldn’t open it for another decade+. Others found this wine completely exciting, putting in a tie for the group's 4th place WOTN. For me, it was middle of the pack; yes, Jayer Richebourg was middle of the pack, albeit in an amazing pack.
