Saturday, August 3, 2013 - Angela's Belated Birthday Dinner (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): Decanted for 3 hours then drank over the next 3 hours. Colour is ox-blood and still fully opaque except for the smallest transparent meniscus. Nose is soft and caressing, with initially quite reticent but deep red currant fruit, damp loam, kirsch notes, graphite....it just balloons with growing complexity in the glass. Wow, such linear purity, heady....oh, gosh! Oh....I can't stop sniffing it and don't even want to start drinking it....mesmerising. Palate is clean, clear and precise....absolutely poised....great acidic balance and charming femininity of black and red currants and berries. Extremely defined balance and tension of evolved tannin, fruit and acidity.Beautiful pencil-point sharpness of definition. Concentrated but very feminine. This is absolutely harmonious and in its perfect drinking window. A lighter vintage of Ch. Margaux but gorgeously feminine and compelling. It drank perfectly with rare-grilled herb-crusted rack of lamb. A treasure for drinking now. Thanks, Greg! 96-97.
