The palate never really delivered though, starting out a bit choppy and astringent and then opening somewhat narrowly into a beautiful yet somewhat middle weight claret that lacked the concentration and depth one would expect of a first growth. This was sort of a Junior Margaux, and I was hoping for a bit more. Oh well, it's still always nice to have a chance at an older bottle like this.
