Friday, March 11, 2011 - Stumbled across some old TN’s while cleaning out a drawer in my office, from a winemakers diner with Paul Pontallier (who sadly left us a year ago) from Chateau Margaux as our host.
Had this from Magnum.
Amazing Bordeaux, and wotn, by far.
Nose is intriguing and challenging, with layers of mixed impressions, ranging from the spectrum of fresh red flowers to old English gentleman…
Fresh red flowers, leather, green spicy herbs, touch of stable, cigar box, smoked oak and dusty gravel, licorice, minerals, red and black currants, forest berries, forest floor with damp autumn leafs and wet earth.
Palate was equally fine and complex, kind of mirrors the impressions of the nose, with a mixture of both maturity and youth.
Rich and full of red ripe and silky fruit, currants and berries, with tobacco leafs and sweet licorice.
Long, silky, with good acidity and superb balance.
This is a semi mature bottle (remember, in Magnum format) with more to reveal, but lovely now.
A very fine bottle of Margaux, indeed.
