Saturday, January 4, 2014 - Cork almost entirely soaked and did not come out in one piece but the wine does not seem negatively affected. Still a medium garnet with a translucent rim. Decanted about 15 min and drank with grilled lamb and later on its own. On the nose sous-bois, dark fruit and spices. A nice and very smooth palate with fine to medium tannins. Feels a bit watered down and could do with a bit more concentration but drinking very well nevertheless. Wonderful medium plus finish.
Given some of the mediocre reviews here, am very impressed. A proof that Pontet Canet was able to produce some very nice wines even before Alfred Tesseron took over and elevated this Chateau to the next level.
