Saturday, June 27, 2015 - MIT Sloan Fellows Forum - Meeting and Dinner in the Provinces: From a magnum. With the main course, we went with 2 birth-year wines (95 and 01) in honor of Meredith and Charlotte joining the MIT group for dinner. Drank side by side with Lail/J Daniel Cuvee (01). Both had close to 3 hours in the decanter before drinking.

Will borrow prior notes from Dec/12: "Nicely aged, medium purple, some thinning at the edges. Nose was fresh and elegant. Some funk one the opneing, blows off in about 15 minutes. Nose was blackberry, cassis, graphite and cedar. After about an hour picking up some burnt sugar. Palate of sweet cherries, currant, cedar. Fruit and acid and well balanced. Tannins resolved but still present. Medium finish."

The extra decant time and maybe the magnum format...but this was really beautiful wine this evening...better than I remember the prior bottle. We lingered over this for a while, was what great Bordeaux is when it hits its stride, elegant, devine and contemplative...beautifully paired with tenderloin and vegetables.

WOTN for about half the group....
