Saturday, October 7, 2017 - DoubleD Fest (Carlsbad, California): Decanted and tasted blind in the venerable Shebang jug. Clear dark inky garnet-blood red. Gorgeous sweet bouquet of blackberries, black cherries, blueberries, cocoa, pen ink, violets, acacia flowers. Similar on the palate, full body, seamless, beautiful structure and balance, powerful but not fatiguing. Most of us correctly guessed this as a Napa Valley cabernet blend between 2000-2009. I guessed 2010 or younger. My #4; group's FIFTH PLACE. To our credit, we voted for this blind wine when there were many big name bottles on the table. Some people commented that the rankings would have been different (i.e., this wine would have ranked higher) if all -- or none! -- had been tasted blind.
