2001 Joseph Phelps Insignia

97 Points

Tuesday, August 7, 2018 - Last tasted in 2011 (96), we gave the Insignia an even higher score this time around. Definitely bordeaux like with rich deep fruit in the nose and flavor. Blackberries, black raspberries, black cherries, leather and earthiness in the nose. Blackberries, black raspberries, currants, chocolate, and minerals in the flavor. Perfectly balanced elegant wine with nice structure, great complexity and ending with a long lingering finish. This wine is drinking beautifully now and still has a long life ahead of it. Delicious, and what a great match to a bone-in dry aged ribeye! (Decanted three hours)

8/11/2018 1:17:00 PM - I remember sampling this at a wine tasting just after it was released. It was tight as a drum, what a great treat it must be now.
