Saturday, October 24, 2020 - dark red with garnet rim - restrained nose of black fruit with only hints of complex aromas (graphite, peonies) - big full round mouth of black cherries and plumbs - good fruit-tannin balance, but low acidity - long 15-20 sec finish - a great CA cab that is continuing to evolve in the mouth, though not so much in the nose (yet) - a very interesting comparison with the 2000 Tertre Roteboeuf tasted at the same time: the Insignia had much more intense fruit, but a far less interesting nose and less structure as a result of lower acidity - no question this is the bigger richer wine, but less elegant at this time than an equivalently aged Bordeaux - preference is a matter of one's taste
