Monday, November 24, 2014 - Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep ruby color, with brown rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with medium (+) intensity aromas of black fruit of plum and blackberry, pungent spice of licorice, MLF notes of cream, kernel notes of milk chocolate, mineral notes of earth, animal notes of meat, maturity notes of farmyard and tobacco. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin of ripe but still a bit grippy on texture, with medium alcohol and a medium body. It has medium intensity flavors of black fruit such as blackberry and juicy plum, herbal notes of blackcurrant leaf, kernel notes of cinnamon, oak notes of cedar, maturity notes of tobacco. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Italian super-tuscan, can easily be mistaken for a Bordeaux, showing good concentration on the nose with a wide range of complex characters. On the palate it is elegant, with well-defined structure of a reasonable intensity, with also ample flavors to accompany the fairly long finish. Only the tannin is still a bit gripping and may require more time to mellow. It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.
