Friday, July 8, 2005 - Beautiful, mature bottle of Barton. Still a surprisingly youthful, deep red color, with no lightening at the rim. Cigar box, roses, and earth on the nose. Lots of red raspberry fruit, and a surprisingly full, round palate. Not at all tannic or astringent as I had feared, in fact this was very well-balanced. It became even more complex after an hour or so in the decanter, and the last glass had an intriguing bubblegum note to it. Long, seamless finish. A really nice wine that paired perfectly with my food, and a steal at $96 off a restaurant wine list.
