Saturday, May 13, 2006 - A fairly musty cork is a bad sign. However, the wine smells unaffected. Nice mature St. Estephe with plenty of primary fruit and subtle secondary nuances. Maybe a hint of funk or oxidation adds a bit of complexity. Smooth, soft and supple. Cool fruit and nicely balanced. A lovely Bordeaux that may have lost just a touch of length due to the cork. It continued to show a bit more oxidation with time in the glass. Probably began to fade and close rather that open up. Still nice and ready to drink now.
