Sunday, October 25, 2009 - Popped and let sit uncorked in the bottle for about an hour, then splash decanted. Muted nose of dusty earth, pencil shavings, sweet oak, and dark berry undertones. Good dose of acid throughout, but the wine is still pretty thin and only mildly structured. Still, it is is flavorful with a nice balance of the lead, a bit of tobacco, and dry earth with black currant and blue berries. Overall a nice wine, but certainly not up to the level of quality that I have come to expect from Pontet Canet. That said, these are well priced and drinking probably about as best as they are going to get (and likely declining).
