Saturday, January 27, 2018 - Another excellent 2002 Pauillac. This must be the most underrated vintage in this part of Bordeaux. While not at the level of the outstanding 2002 Pichon Baron, this is an excellent and classic Pauillac which I would love to try in a vertical against the 96 and 2000 Pontet Canet as this is the better Pauillac from memory. While accessible immediately after a 60 min slow ox, this wine benefits from another 60 min or so in the decanter as the nose becomes more aromatic with fine wood spices complementing the precisely drawn fruit on the nose. On the palate this has this masculine dry, dark fruit profile which seems to be a 2002 trademark and fits those Pauillacs so well. Integrated tannins. Medium finish. Great to drink now but will not fall off the cliff anytime soon
