Sunday, April 5, 2020 - From 75cl, perfect cork, decanted 1 hour (it should have been either P+P or at perhaps 3 hours). Yes, there is some fine blackcurrant action on the nose, pointing to the Left Bank, and, undoubtedly, to Pauillac. The wild, rough, untamed, rodeo-bucking on the entry makes one expect a massive mid-palate and an imposing finish, but it kind of falls apart, leaving a huge tannic carapace (as I remember Bordeaux tasting at a similar age back in the 1980s, in fact) and my tongue feeling like raw leather. This is so unlike any of the currently excellent 2002 Médoc I know and love so well (Armailhac, Lynch Bages, Léoville Poyferré etc.) that it is hard for me to rate. Opening any time soon I'd recommend either P+P for the up-front, butch muscularity, or a looooong decant. 88-90P, perhaps?
