Sunday, January 31, 2010 - Pop and pour. This is medium red in color; the nose at first is earthy with obvious cranberry and cherry notes. The fruit grew in intensity over the course of the first hour and then I could pick out baking spices with a hint of pepper. It was quite nice. On the palate the wine was full of bright red fruit with sweet cherry and sour cranberry components mixing well. At this point the alcohol is coming through in the mid-palate along with mild ripe tannic notes. This lead into a long finish with distinct cedar/caramel notes.

At the point that this was open 3 hours, I noticed a distinct change. While the nose still had the red fruit and baking spice component, there was a woody/cedar aspect to the nose. This lead to a significant change on the palate, strawberries and cream, which was pretty intense.

The wine always had great viscosity, and I found the acidity well balanced. Unfortunately, I could never get over the mid-palate harshness from the alcohol which never went away.
