Thursday, October 13, 2011 - Tis a puzzle. The wine was not shut down but, rather, just lacking in fruit. Decanted 9 hours. Muted nose that, to us, never did offer up the gorgeous southern Rhone smells. Hard pressed to pick it as CDP if tasting blind. Black, tightly structured, firm but not powerful tannins. Alot of depth, soils and minerals, and finishing with a tarriness that I like. Is it going to become great? Or is it going to stay devoid of fruit as it is? I'll revisit this in 3 to 5 years and see but if it doesn't develop, I'll have no need of it.
