90 Points

Friday, April 2, 2010 - Some controversy lately prompted me to open this up probably a few months earlier than I would have.
Darkish hued wine. Lots of dark cassis on the nose. Unfortunately I get the brett mentioned elsewhere--just a hint mind you. Not deal breaking but sure enough there.
Some masked pure black fruits are in there: some currant, blackest plum, blackberries and anise and a wee bit of kirschy notes. A hint of cola and some leather. A pretty blowsy medium weight profile. The tannins are chewy and somewhat unstructured at this moment and the balance somewhat disjointed. The finish is very admirable indeed: long and clean. Certainly not in the place it was a year ago,but my hope is still in place for this to rise and shine. 89 for today, 91 is the promise. Lets call it 90.
