Within a half-hour or so it started to gain weight and intensity, beginning to reveal what was underneath. By the time we sat down to dinner, an hour-and-a-half later, the magic was in full swing. This wine was simply sublime, with beautiful deep red fruit and pinpoint balance. The wine managed to deftly balance elegance and power, with that same liqueur-like sappiness I found a few years ago (which is not in any way cloying). Some finishing warmth, but it never seems harsh or hot (I think the alcohol is a bit higher than the stated 14%). Terrific.
