Friday, January 14, 2011 - Good wine from this amazing reisling village, but one where the sugars were too high and did not marry with the acidity. A lot of fun, but not in balance. The color was a deep straw / ripe pear color suggesting that the wine might also be perhaps a bit riper. And it was! The sugars almost had a honey like sweetness which reminds more of ethiopian wines and not something i expect to find in a mosel reisling. This despite the fact that the wine has great acidity. Mild aromas of slate and quince, and slate and acidity is what hit the tip of the tongue before plush fruit emerged to overtake the experience. Ripe pears and a honey aftertaste dominate the fruit palette. To me, the length did feel a bit short and the wine sort of fell off a bit after mid palette. I paired it with sharp cheddar and the acidity of the riesling was great to cut through the cheddar fat while not being overdone with its sharpness. Good fun stuff. At $25 would definiteoly recommend.
