Community Tasting Note

Thursday, April 29, 2010 - Haven't tasted one of these in at least a year, so thought it might be good to check in on one, particularly after reading some of the tasting notes here. Enormously different impressions from those who found vegetal, astringent, green flavors. We got absolutely none of that - this wine is rich and powerful, chock full of classic OR pinot flavors and still in its middle years. Our wine was purchased at release at the winery and has been in climate-controlled storage since that time - as a result, it's barely showing any signs of age: in color, still a deep purple, fading to a crimson rim. On the nose, tons of dark fruit and earth - unmistakably OR pinot. I got a lot of intense raspberry, some smoky mushroom funk, and a long finish with a potent sasparilla note. Soft tannins and acidity. Although this style is not as much to my liking as it once was, it's nevertheless a solid performer in a jammy, full-throttle style.
