Saturday, July 13, 2013 - Oregon: Young vs. old vine tasting & the consumption of Hank, a Scottish Highland steer (Paul's house): Quite spicy aromas, and very large in scale. Big, alcoholic, and oaky smells. This is massive on the palate, with a thick texture and spicy burn. Pretty largely fruited. Decent acid on the finish, actually, but still showing some stewed fruits that I don't like.

My guess was young vines based on the steamy alcohol and hoping old vines would have been able to better deal with that. It's hard to tell just which vines were used for this wine, but there are some 30 year old vines on this vineyard, which would put it in the "old vine" category. Based upon Jim's desire to use old vine fruit, I'd imagine this was from the old section. I don't believe anyone liked this that much, yet it was still my second favorite of the 2006s.
