Sunday, February 27, 2011 - Popped and poured on Sunday evening with a dinner of thyme and rosemary chicken mixed in with julienned carrots, celery, leeks, cucumbers and squash, and grape tomatoes. The color was the most red I have seen in any wine all the way to the edge. The initial aroma was spice and raspberry. The initial taste was brambly, spicy and all raspberries, with what seems quite a bit of heat and alcohol. The finish was longer than I expected and included some tannins.

After about an hour or so, secondary flavors of earth and vanilla came through - perhaps after some of the heat had burned off.

Initially disappointed with the wine, my wife and I had more hope for it by the end of the bottle.

It was a singleton, but deserving of another purchase, though I might give it another year of age. I would also consider a 1-2 hr decanting.
