Monday, March 30, 2015 - Bright, light gold color. Slightly reductive as expected, so we decanted it, and the air helped. The nose is the essence of Meursault, with fully integrated ripe peach, lime, hazelnuts, vanilla bean, and lots of chalk. Dense and subtly powerful but not showy, the power shows not up front but only in the midpalate, so at first it seems a little reserved before doing a slow build through the midpalate and into the finish, where the fruit takes a backseat to the intense minerality, which is chalky and almost tannic in character. An excellent pairing with a lobster ravioli dish, and a real treat to find a white burg at 18 years that hasn't collapsed. First time I've had a chance to try Coche, and this wine justifies the hype. Too bad the wines are so damn expensive.
