Characteristic Coche driven fuel nose, crystalline and razor precision with hazelnuts, almonds and honeyed pineapple on the palate. Just wished it were a little longer on the finish. But overall just superb. Drank at Le jardin des crayeres

Coche sensation of popcorn, grilled nut and gunflint. Good richness on the palate yet I expect more complexity for a Perrieres. I doubt it will improve further with aging. Drink up.

DRC in AZ - Tucson Comes to Scottsdale: Served blind, this stood out as the most obvious wine in the lineup. Mature Coche Dury wines have a density to them that few other producers can match, and this was really apparent here. Also the '97 vintage showed itself with dark color and mature secondary notes. It's an excellent wine, but I wonder if we have missed something by waiting this long.

During a Paulee dinner, so only brief impressions. Awesome wine, match stick, minerals, lemon. Very grand as always from this house. Why dont they just give the whole appellation to them...

Impeccable bottle, youthful and vibrant on the palate, a touch of green to the golden color. A very recognizable flinty Coche signature, beautiful and enticing from the start but we felt it would reveal more with air. Put aside half the bottle for about an hour, and when we returned it was indeed deeper and richer, but more oak showing and not quite as polished. A serious wine that commands attention, doesn't stay in one place long. If only more 97's were drinking like this...

High acidity like the Enseigneres but much richer and longer on the palate. Ripe peach fruit with a touch of lemon custard and hint of buttered popcorn. Lovely.

On the back side of peak, though still delicious. Dark color, awesome nose, long finish - but not as precise as the 2000 Leflaive Chevalier. Improved nicely with air, strutted its stuff a bit more. Drink sooner than later.

Aromaric fireworks right from the start, lots of toasted nuts, caramel and honey. Lovely palate with hints of white flowers and honey, still with good definition, more aromatic with every pour, mature and at the very right time to drink now. Long finish with slightly softened acidity.

Toasted nut, caramel, butter, popcorn, durian, tropical fruit, honeysuckle. The palate had tremendous length and depth with intense nutty flavor. It gave you more depth and power with more time in the glass. The elegance and intensity were perfectly balanced. Long life ahead. Drinking beautifully.

Bright, light gold color. Slightly reductive as expected, so we decanted it, and the air helped. The nose is the essence of Meursault, with fully integrated ripe peach, lime, hazelnuts, vanilla bean, and lots of chalk. Dense and subtly powerful but not showy, the power shows not up front but only in the midpalate, so at first it seems a little reserved before doing a slow build through the midpalate and into the finish, where the fruit takes a backseat to the intense minerality, which is chalky and almost tannic in character. An excellent pairing with a lobster ravioli dish, and a real treat to find a white burg at 18 years that hasn't collapsed. First time I've had a chance to try Coche, and this wine justifies the hype. Too bad the wines are so damn expensive.

Decanted 2-3 hours before first tasting, this started out a little lean and tart, and seemed unlikely to come around. No worries, mate, the pedigree comes thru in the end. Maybe an hour more air time and swirling in the glass, the nose bloomed with a huge, oily, piney blast, and the palate seemed to pick up far more weight. Kept going strong for hours, always improving. A great 1997. Drink now with extended decanting time, can age another 5-10 years.

Chez JPL: flint, citrus and tons of stones. High density and very long. Enormous bottle.

Club Blind Tasting (Repulse Bay): Number 27725. Slightly corked, can still find gunpowder and flint. Fairly good layers. Shame.

Gunflint aromatics. Citrus, sharp acidity. Loses focus a bit if nitpicking. (27724)

Lovely if a bit tired. Not as long as 01 and finish a bit astringent.

Darker color. Some matchstick, lemon and secondary notes. Rich, big mid palate. Lacks freshness. I would drink up.

Still very good but the nose is slightly more recessed than the last bottle, probably peaked for the vintage, time to drink up.
