2002 Renaissance Granite Crown

Friday, October 2, 2015 - This appears to be a defunct winery (haven't released something since 2006). I like this wine, it was sold to me as a softer expression of syrah and I think that's accurate. It has some cab in it which, combined with the age (relatively long for an American syrah), makes this a pleasant bottle. Medium red to slightly dark out of the bottle, with a nose earth, iron, and some secondary notes of red fruits in the background. Tannins fairly soft at this point. Not sure I'd proactively seek it out, but I like this as an antidote to massive central coast fruit bombs, though I think it is slightly past peak.
