6/9/09: It's not surprising that the same things that make France such a fantastic producer of wines and with the best system for the consumer to understand what they are getting can also make it so difficult for the consumer. Take Condrieu. There's so little made, that prices are outrageous, usually for wines that don't justify the price. I love Rhone whites, but I've tried precious little Condrieu b/c of availability and price. That said, I have had the oppurtunity to try Guigal's offerings a few times. I'm not sure I'd pony up the $50+ it takes to buy a bottle, but they are fun wines. This is of course, rich, but the oak has integrated marvousely with the fruit. It round and slightly soft, with lots of melon flavors. The fruit is fresh, but I would like a little more acidity. I'd be pretty happy pairing this with lobster, however. If you're not technical, it's delicious. 91
