Sunday, June 20, 2021 - Popped while visiting Jaime and Melissa.....30 minutes in fridge. Deep, dark color that belies the age of this wine. This could pass for a '16 wine, not an '06 in color. Black olive, walnut, subtle toffee on the nose. The wine is full bodied and impressive, again especially for its age. A slight herbal component like maybe this was fermented whole cluster? Black plum fruit on the palate, maybe a hint of aging raisin, but just a hint. Still some drying to the tannins and matching acidity. This may have a a few years left but it's drinking beautifully right now. I'd be hard pressed to wait longer on these. Just a dense, flavorful wine that was quite a surprise after the letdown of the '13 Merlot from last night. Never degraded over the 4 hours it was consumed, just wonderful...maybe the WOTN for me and Melissa? Not for Jaime and Carol....lol.
