100 Points

Wednesday, February 10, 2010 - Perhaps the most regal expression of Granache (whilst not 100% grenache like the Chaupin) one can find in CDP is the 07 Janasse VV. Tasted blind alongside 13 other heavy hitters, it bested them all (including Mon Aieul, CSJ VV, RdB, VT, VD etc...). It has such a purity and pitch to its fruit, with such laser like focus, it is truly remarkable. My only hesitation is its boisterous, loud nature makes it virtually impossible to match with food. I'd prefer various other 100 point expressions of wine over this, but that is a stylistic preference, not a condemnation of its quality. Opened 12 hours prior to pouring and tasted alongside 13 other peers blind. I recommend a 12-16 hour opening at cellar temperature (no decant) for this wine at this juncture.
