95 Points

Wednesday, July 1, 2009 - This is a wonderful vintage for Pegau, and I actually wonder if my score is too low. Rich, balanced, powerfully aromatic: that trademark Pegau profile with creme-de-cassis, tobacco, leather, garrigue, and a remarkable tension between ripeness and structure. The wine has a core sweetness that just makes it irresistable. In fact perhaps the only negative is that I tasted it next to the 2007 da Capo and whereas in 2003, for me, the da Capo and the reservee turned out to be at a similar level of quality, here the da Capo definitely had the edge.
