There is some great things going on in the nose, a bit of cherry pie and crust, dried fig, mushroom, damp earth. Smells pretty good. Those flavors play out initially, some nice rich fruit and earthy flavors but the structure is still pretty strong on this. I know there is more here but it's a bit over acidic and tannic in the finish. I've got 2 more bottles, I'd give these a lot of time (2-3 years at least?) based on this. I'll re-try this tomorrow, for now I'd place it around 87-88 points.

7/6/2013 12:55:00 AM - Lots of time is 10+ years, not 2-3! 2-3 years is a blip for Pinot... I still have a split of this that I wanted to check in on soon, but everyone keeps saying it's tight/not interesting, so I keep putting it off. I also have three 750s and a 3L, on the hopes this would be one of the more grand 2008s... Not only are the notes not shaping up for it to be that, but it also appears to be one of the worst Carter's of recent! Better scores for those vintages around it. Seems odd... I'll dig into that 375 within a few years and offer my take. Hopefully it truly is closed... based on everyone's notes, I worry if it will ever come around.
