Saturday, April 21, 2012 - Pulled from the cellar where it had lain since purchase. The wine is a lovely copper and orange color - without much of the usual light-red coloring one associates with rose. Wine should have been decanted as some sediment was noticeable; however, this was not possible given the transportation to Universal Cafe (here in San Francsico), where it was opened and served.

Table side notes are limited, but include: restrained nose with elements of chestnut and stone fruits. Flavors included an upfront sweetness, followed by meaty chestnut, more stone fruits, and a lovely restrained finish of perhaps citrus - more specifically grapefruit and a pinch of pineapple. Finish does have a touch of sweetness too, but it is enveloped by good drying acids that cleanse the palate. Thirteen percent alcohol and well balanced with the fruit flavors.

Served with Universal's little gem lettuce salad with tangerine, feta, walnuts, and coriander vinaigrette, plus a lovely roasted chicken with English peas, carrot puree, and corn meal onion rings.

PS I have been told that this producer's rose wines are now higher in RS. I hope this is not the case; nevertheless, I will need to find out and see if the style has changed much. Worth seeking out if you like an obscure Sancerre Rose.
