Monday, September 5, 2016 - A better showing than last time.
A little darker. From the same case as previous bottle but seems to be showing more signs of age.
Slight biscuit notes with some lemons, less acidity and seems a bit more rs than last time too.
More pleasant to drink, probably paired with better food this time is why.
Finish was medium. A nice basic NV champagne.

2/18/2021 1:14:00 PM - Perhaps not the name, but basic in every other way is what I was getting at. Basic nose, taste, finish... A basic NV champagne flavour profile.

2/19/2021 1:38:00 AM - Hmmm, I'm still not at all convinced by your idea of basic. NV Champagnes are really quite the opposite of basic, having been a blend of so many wines across so many years, and every time I personally sip a Grande Marque Champagne I can recognise all sorts of intricate, not basic, flavour aspects.

2/19/2021 1:50:00 AM - Notice that I wrote "a basic NV champagne"... Not a NV champagne that is basic. This refers to a NV champagne with a relatively basic profile compared to other NV champagnes.
Also the blending of older blends of still wines is not necessarily to create complexity, but to create consistency year in year out. The winemaker/blender wants the NV, or the base cuvee to taste the same every year.
The Grand marquis NV blends are generally the Toyota's of the champagne world. Mass producing as many of the same/similar wines as possible with the wines/grapes coming from non grand or premier cru vineyards. Which is why again, I said basic. And besides, basic is subjective in the wine world. To me a basic wine may be complex to you, and vice versa, so just because a wine is the NV from a grand marquis, doesn't mean it is either complex or basic. I write what I taste, labels, names, grand marquis, grower, aside.

2/19/2021 2:41:00 AM - "Basic". ...maybe you need to just calm down because you appear to have become aggressive in your defence of the word "basic" which I have pulled you,up on. Oh, and your Toyota reference is...ridiculous (hahahaha)

2/19/2021 2:44:00 AM - My campaign is that I didn't want us to be claiming that NV Champagne isn't extraordinary or sophisticated, ...coz it IS.

2/19/2021 2:46:00 AM - Currently I really am focusing on NV Champagnes and I'm not comparing it with all my krugs, cristal s, comtes, Louise, Brignac, Belle Époque, etc etc etc

2/19/2021 2:50:00 AM - Yes, a Prosecco is generally basic, but in the world of NV champagne Mumm is a basic NV champagne.

I'm glad my comments are making you laugh because as far as I can see, the only joke around here is you. Giving 100 points to Lanson Black and NV PJ... That's Suckling level scoring... What are you going to do if you ever drink let's say a perfectly stored and bottled 96 Salon or 96 Krug for example which in sure 99 out of 100 people would score even blind considerably more than a recent Lanson Black. Would you give 105points? 110 points?

2/19/2021 2:53:00 AM - It also doesn't appear to be just myself who feels similar to the way I do about this wine... I called it basic, but if you scroll through many comments, the word "simple" appears many times. Simple, as in a synonym for basic....

2/19/2021 2:55:00 AM - Also Krug Grande cuvee is a NV or MV, whatever you want to call it...
