Thursday, November 24, 2011 - Popped and decanted for 4 hours. Medium-plus dark garnet. A perfumed nose of black fruits, currant, tobacco leaf, earth, dried mushrooms, and hints of smoke. Medium-plus body. As if the nose wasn't enough, the flavors on the palate are truly evocative of Bordeaux, with fruit much more refrained from the excellent core of earth, cedar, cigar box, and other notes one would more commonly associate with Bordeaux. But that's not to say it lacks fruit; indeed, it possesses a solid core of blackberry and black currant. However, in comparison to many other Cabernet blends from Napa, this shows a degrees of finesse and integration that is almost uncommon nowadays. The tannins are chewy and slightly astringent on the moderate-plus close. While nice to check in on now, this promising wine is full of potential and will only improve with further cellaring.

Quick commentary: I wouldn't recommend purchasing this one if you're a fan of exuberant Napa fruit. That said, this is a delightful wine and should be sought after by anyone who appreciates Right Bank Bordeaux...it might even fool in a blind setting.
