Saturday, January 3, 2009 - Cranberry core with a bricked rim. Nose of blackberry, pomegranate, roasted tomatoes, mineral, cedar, black currant, rosemary and tobo. Very much the same on the palate with some intensity of flavor, but with incredible balance also. The tannins are fully resolved making this a round, engaging wine. At first, I thought I detected some raisin on the finish, but as the night wore on, whatever might have been there dissipated. As inconsistent as the ‘88 vintage was, this was a good wine. Surprisingly only a heavy shadow of sediment on the shoulder of the bottle. 12.5% alc. With butter poached prime rib (a killer dish of the most perfect prime rib I have ever tasted. A good pairing. With Mark Tinsley. Highly Recommended.
